Vodafone UMTS / 3G / GPRS Card (Last Update: 2006/01/12):

Configuring Vodafone UMTS / 3G / GPRS Card

The 3G card this HOWTO refers to is the Option GT 3G Quad and the kernel I'm using is a vanilla kernel 2.6.15.

After insertting the card in your PCMCIA slot the system log (/var/log/messages) gives this:

If in your log doesn't show:
    Option 3G data card converter now attached to ttyUSB0
    Option 3G data card converter now attached to ttyUSB1
    Option 3G data card converter now attached to ttyUSB2

Please verify if the needed modules are loaded:
  • usbserial (if doesn't appear, run: modprobe usbserial)
  • option (if doesn't appear, run: modprobe option)
Note:In kernels below 2.6.13 it's need to include the follow line in modprobe.conf: options usbserial vendor=0x0af0 product=0x6300 e a seguir rmmod usbserial seguido de modprobe usbserial

The Vodafone 3G card is now configured in your kernel, and only step missing is configuring the connection to Vodafone.
